President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, will arrive in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on a four-day official visit from December 14 to 17. His visit will be the first official visit to Bangladesh by a Timor-Leste head of state.
15 December (First day of the tour)
In a briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (December 12) evening, Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin said Principal Advisor Muhammad Yunus will formally welcome Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He also said that, on the first day of the visit the President of Timor Leste will have a private meeting with Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus. After their private meeting, a delegation-level meeting will be held between Timor-Leste and Bangladesh.
16 December
The President of Timor-Leste will attend the Victory Day celebrations in Bangladesh on December 16. He will also pay tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. The President of Timor-Leste will meet President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban on December 16.
17 December
On 17 December, The President of Timor-Leste will deliver a public lecture on ‘The Challenges of Peace in the Contemporary World’. He will address Bangladeshi students and youth. He will share the experiences of the Timorese people in the independence struggle of Timor-Leste.
Diplomatic Relations between Timor-Leste and Bangladesh
After Timor-Leste gained independence, Bangladesh recognized the country on June 7, 2002.
